MID WEEK STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE | Designing & Applying a Custom Phone Skin Using a Scrapbook Template.

Hello Everyone,

Nifty Gal Lisa coming to you with a fun tutorial on how to customise your phone. This is a super easy process and such a fun way to elevate your phone with your own personalised phone skin. I love that there are countless ideas that you could make including seasonal designs, dedications and memoriam designs. Photos of the kids, your pets or celebrating that special someone in your life. Let your creativity shine with this project and add that personal touch to your everyday life!

Supplies You'll Need.

Scrapbook Template

Phone Template

Self Adhesive Printable Vinyl or Sticker Sheets

Cricut Machine or similar.

Isopropyl Alcohol Wipes

Craft Scraper or Mini Squeegee (Optional)

Clear Phone Cover (Optional)

STEP 1. Select Your Design Template.

Open your chosen digital template.

I chose to use PAPER PLAY No.3 | PAGE DRAFTS by The Nifty Pixel.

STEP 2. Source & Scale Your Phone Template.

Find, purchase, or create a template matching your specific phone model—many digital cut file shops sell exact dimensions, or you can trace your phone on paper and scan it into your software to make your own. Open the template file, drag it onto a blank 12" x 12" canvas, and scale it to 12" high. Working on a standard 12" x 12" artboard saves time by ensuring any papers or elements you import won't need constant resizing.

STEP 3. Customise Your Design.

Select the design layers from the scrapbook template you have already chosen and opened, dragging them directly into your phone template which you should also have in your work space. Build your design by adding elements and papers from your scrapbook stash.

I played with the BEACHSIDE | BUNDLE by The Nifty Pixel to create my final phone skin image. This was done by rotating, & adjust the layers until I was happy with the final image.  Note: Everything should fit neatly within the phones outline perimeters.

STEP 4. Save and Merge Layers.

Before combining all the layers make sure to save your master design file first so you can easily return and make edits later if needed. Then, flatten and save to your desktop a copy of the final design to use for printing and cutting.

STEP 5. Print and Cut.

Import your merged file into your cutting machine software. Follow your specific machine’s instructions for image & color quality, then print the design and cut out the skin along the template lines. I used a quality self adhesive printable vinyl sheet. 

(Alternatively you can easily fussy cut the printed skin using a quality pair of scissors or a craft knife.)

STEP 6. Prep the Phone Surface.

Thoroughly clean the back of your phone using an isopropyl alcohol wipe to remove dirt and oils, ensuring maximum bubble free adhesion.

STEP 7. Apply the Skin.

Peel back a small section of the backing paper at one edge. Align the skin precisely with your phone's camera, edges, and corners. Slowly peel away the remaining backing paper while pressing the skin down firmly, smoothing out any air bubbles as you go.

Now you have an incredibly beautiful and personalised phone that resonates with you.
