OOOH & Look... our fabulous Nifty Gal Sanna Lippert has done another awesome tutorial for you, this time a Christmas inspired treat!

I know, I know it's only half way through the year but if you are like me the next few months will fly by and before you know it, it'll be too late to get those handmade cards created. That's why Sanna decided to share with you a fantastic tutorial on how to make a set quickly using digital kits in this case our Berry & Fawn christmas kit. I hope you find it as inspiring as I do and motivator to kick start your christmas card making before its too late, the clock is ticking remember!

Even though these cards are very easy and FAST to create they still have lots of layered effects and detail to make them really stand out. The best part since the layers are digital they aren't bulky in the mail allowing you to send them with regular postal fees...a total win win here!!!

So my first step was to choose a blue patterned paper from the Berry & Fawn digital kit as my starting point and then in my phot editing program I clustered and layered various digital elements from the kit and stacked some sentiments over each one. I don't do much measuring when creating, I just estimated enough space between each cluster (6 in total) so that when it came to cutting them after printing they would fit within the confines of the card bases.

After printing and cutting each hybrid sentiment I adhered them to the kraft card or white card bases. Now the fun part, dressing each card up. Some of the techniques I used were spritzing in and black or white ink, die cut some glittered stars and added them for extra dimension. I stapled twine to some or border punched some accents to create even more layers.

There are endless ways to spiffy up your cards some other nifty tips would include, adding dimensional magic to some elements giving them a glossy dimensional look. Paint Glimmer Glitter Glaze for sparkle or layer some fine tulle/ lace for an added tactile feel.  Just be mindful of not getting too chunky so you keep postage costs to the minimum.

PRINT & CUT | HYBRID PROJECT BY SANNA

Our fabulous Nifty Gal, Sanna Lippert is our hybrid star. She also has her latest and greatest tutorial which will just blow ya socks off! 'LIVE & LAUGH'

In this layout I wanted to capture a fun Summer feeling and  what better papers to use for this purpose than the Passion Play collection, with their bold warm colour tones they are a perfect fit.

I first printed the elements and papers from the Passion Play packs with my Epson A3 format colour printer I then adhered the Passion Play painted paper pack onto a piece of regular mint green card stock and started my project from there using the JUST A LIL' DIFFERENT V.1 | Page Drafts templates also by The Nifty Pixel. Next I cut a 6" wide piece of from the pattern paper pack  and layered it over the top , following the sketch.  I then grabbed my blcj artline pen and added faux stitching to outline the edges with a contrasting border to make teh papers stand out more.

I chose the photos I wanted to use showing my boys playing in the garden and began fussy cutting the elements from the printed A3 sized paper I prepared earlier. I also cut some paper ribbon strips from the papers to help add more dimensions and layering.

Now its time to add some texture and extra dimension. I used a The Crafter's Workshop stencil and applied some light texture paste through it onto the background areas where my photos and fussy cut elements will be adhered. Thsi technique adds a nice subtle texture as a point of interest. Once that dried I added some ink splats here and there for a touch of grunge and lastly added my title work in a contrasting colour for added impact.

So there you have it, an easy step-by-step tutorial showcasing our PASSION PLAY | Collection and JUST A LIL' DIFFERENT | Page Drafts. I know...right this page is not about fitness but hey who says you have to be so specific when using a kit? It's all about how with a little creative thinking any kit can  be braodly translated into other themes. 'SILLY FAMILY'

CORE RADIANCE | Collection by The Nifty Pixel

I first designed my own background using a paper from the CORE RADIANCE | Collection  then overlayed using the blending modes feature in photoshop a mix of elements including textures and journal cards from the collection to create some textured effects in the background. I then positioned the photos in a stylised grid formation so that they flowed down the left of the page.

I then dressed the page with a collection of embellishments from my stash that coordinated with the colour palette. Added some ink splatters (One of my fave techniques to do!) and fussy cut some little printed design elements from other Nifty Pixel kits that  also coordinated.

The themes of the kits might very different, but you will always find patterns/colours and motifs from other kits that will combine perfectly together to help you create an eye catching project.

So there you have it, a simple tutorial on mixing digital kits to create amazing hybrid pages. Creating hybrid projects is really easy and gives you more bang for your buck. 'Home is Where...'

I first altered the patterned paper by adding some journal cards, brads and stamps from the WHO LIVES HERE? | Collection. When I was happy with the placement I saved it as a new 12x12 file and proceeded to print it using my Epson A3 Landscape color printer. I then trimmed it and adhered it onto a background sheet of green cardstock to form a mat around it. I used two (2) photos of our house and clustered them with a mix of small embellishments clustering them together over the stamped home wordart and grungy splattered black ink. 

I then added more elements  which  I collated from my stash to help support the theme of my photos. These included chipboard clouds, puffy stickers and a cute little brad. I chose not to add lots of journaling on this page. Because it is the loved ones that make a place feel like home not where you live I really wanted to highlight this so...

How cute is that page and so so simple yet so incredibly effective. Creating hybrid pages is actually really easy and gives you more bang for your buck. Buy digital and create endless pages/projects. PRINT & CUT | HYBRID PROJECT

Our fabulous Nifty Gal, Sanna Lippert's latest and greatest creation is called 'All Rolled Into One'. This eye catching artwork uses some of our Nifty packs namely 'In Silhouette Vol.1' and 'Makin' Marks V.2 Brush Set'  which are handy mixed media packs available in our store.

'All Rolled Into One'

HERE IS WHAT SANNA SAID ABOUT HER PROCESS....

When I saw the designs of this mixed media digi pack, I immediately knew what kind of layout I would like to create using it... it had to be something about myself. The bold female silhouette shapes were so inspiring that I wanted to use them as my main focal point in my design.

Creating this page was really fast and easy to do and whilst I was putting it together I had for some reason started singing Alanis Morrissette's song 'I'm a Bitch' ...

So here is what I did...

My first step was to create the design in InDesign by Layering the individual silhouettes next to or over each other relatively symmetrical making sure to balance the bold and more subtle images to create continuity. When I was happy with the overall look of stacking and layering I then printed them with my Epson A3 Color Printer. I added a mat underneath of a bold red cardstock to ground the design and doodled a frame in black to give it a more defined edge.

Using a palette knife I began to add in some more layers of texture using texture paste and Crafters Workshop Templates and also applied some Black Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze in flecks for a grungy effect. Once that dried I adhered resin embellishments to add some contrasted visual content.

I printed out my photos in varying sizes cropped them and situated them on top of the silhouettes making sure to keep them as the main focal point. Lastly, I googled the lyrics of my song choice, printed them out in preparation of fussy cutting the parts I wanted to use in my page.

These packs would have to be some of my all time favourites because they are so versatile and would work perfectly in a number of projects including layouts, cards, canvasses and art journal pieces just to name a few!  I hope this really easy step by step inspires you to give hybrid scrapping a go!!!

HERE IS WHAT SANNA SAID ABOUT HER PROCESS....

I first print out some of the digi papers I want to play with and print some of the elements on an A3 sheet of paper. First I arrange them in a photo editing program like InDesign so they are within thedimensions of an A3 sheet making them much easier to print. This way I have plenty of elements on hand ready to cut and arrange on my artwork.

I then created a digital background by clustering and layering the elements in my photo editing program making sure the work space dimensions would fit into my printers dimensions. After printing my background I cut it out and pasted it to a sheet of 12X12 Cardstock framing it and also to provide a more rigid base as I am going add lots of dimensional texture to it.  

I added some black glimmer glaze splatters here and there along with some white marker faux splatters for more dimension. Using my trusty Crafters Workshop stencils I then applied some gold pops of texture by scraping Golden Texture paste through the stencil directly onto the background. Then I went along and stamped in black. (I like to use black so as to add some strong visual contrast.)

Now that my base is dry I can start to add the photo's and begin cutting some of the elements I printed out earlier. I chose a word art from the Core Radiance Kit to fussy cut and stagger over my photo's which helps guide your eye across the 3 main photo's and also works perfectly as part of my journaling.

After everything is glued gown and I have decided on the title I add one last little nifty trick to make the title stand out even more. Simply using a sharpie pen I outline each letter giving them a more defined appearance, I think they stand out so much more from the background.

I had such a fun time playing with the digital ements and making my own printable background ready to add some layered elements and texture too.
